Style Advice

Every woman can look good in the right pair of shoes or boots. The aim is to make your feet appear attractive, your ankles slim and your legs look long. The secret is to know what works for you.

Build a staple collection of quality shoes that fit and flatter you. Keep your look up to date by adding a few new pairs of shoes in more contemporary colours and styles each season.

Your shoes show how much you care about yourself, look after them by making sure they are always well-polished and repaired and protect them from scuffs by keeping them in shoe bags and on shoe trees to maintain their shape.

Colours
Black and brown are the core colours during winter, but for a more current look try wearing shoes in colours that harmonise with your outfits rather than matching them. Go for Galley in aubergine and Darcey, Susannah Navy and Victoria Navy in dark shades of blue. In the evening wear dazzling metallics, for example, Liora, Ballerina Black Metallic and Ballerina Bronze which are all eye-catching for parties.

Thick Ankles
A chunky shoe will balance the proportion of your ankle so choose pumps, moccasins and loafers such as Floony, Susannah, Victoria, Mollie, Spinnaker, Elvira, Agate or Grace. To add shape to your ankles choose court shoes with straight up and down heels or wedges. Try slingbacks and mules with open-toes such as Teal or Bolena to slim your ankles and flatter by adding length to your legs. Don't be afraid of large details such as bows and flowers which will complement the shape of your legs.

Thin Ankles
These look good in ballerinas, slingbacks and shoes with dainty pointed toes and slim or kitten heels. Long legs with slim ankles also look stunning in shoes with ankle straps. Look for delicate trims on the fronts of shoes that won't overwhelm your frame. Suggested styles include Darcey, Margot, Ballerina Black Metallic, Ballerina Bronze, Lea, Venezia, Silvan and Liora.

Thick Calves
If you have thick calves then choose thicker heels or wedges to balance and flatter the shape of your legs. Styles with open toes will also lengthen the appearance of your legs making your calves look slimmer. Try Floony, Elvira, Susannah, Agate, Grace, Victoria, Bolena and Teal. For knee-high winter boots wear Carolyn with their easily adjustable calf or ankle boots such as Annabel.

Thin Calves
Go for shoes with rounder toes to give more shape to your calves. For example, Locchi, Victoria, Darcey, Margot, Ballerina and Grace. For boots try Billie our narrow AA width fitting boots specially designed for ladies with slim legs.

Short Legs
To make shorter legs appear longer always select shoes with a low front and go for heels whenever possible. Look at Galley, Venezia, Silvan, Liora, Lea, Bolena and Teal. In winter wear boots with a comfortable small heel for everyday such as Billie and Annabel

Boots
These are recommended for every woman and if you aren't comfortable with the shape of your legs then boots are the ideal answer for skirts of all lengths. It's best to avoid a gap between the top of your boots and the hem of your skirt but if you do have a gap then wear interesting tights with a pattern or texture. If your legs are thicker wear a smaller pattern but if they are slim you can go for something larger. Remember, a curvier body shape needs a thicker heel to add balance. With skirts go for Billie and Carolyn. Alternatively, wear Annabel with trousers.
